Why am I jubilant right now? I just paid a visit to Tori Amos’ new site. Hats off to her. I’m not sure the amount of involvement she had in the course of this site, but I would put forth the probability of her final sign off on the project, now who ever managed the project then hats off to them as well for hiring turntable to build it. The backend is powered by the expression engine, which has quickly been gaining popularity.
Now, here are some of the main reasons for my excitement here…
- The markup is semantic and valid (with an exception see below).
- Effective use of separating presentation from markup, just needs a few tweaks to achieve validation.
- No Flash, except for the media player, for which they could get those pages to validate in a few seconds by using the satay method.
Give Tori a visit and experience a well designed, forwards compatible, shiny new site.

It really amazes me sometimes when I discover a band thats new to me, but has been around making fantastic music for so long. I came across Tarentel this afternoon, and it was love at first drone. I was familiar with Colophon but didn’t know that it was the guitarist from Tarentel, Jefre Cantu.
The atmosphere in the space of these songs is gorgeous, layers of guitar drone textures, self constructed brass instruments, on point drums, mingled with aural whitespace. The sound is open, and at times its like the last few moments before high tide.
In addition to the amazing music, they have some of the most tasteful album covers I have seen in quite a long time, they really capture visually the experience of hearing the compositions.
And now for the best part, there is a bevy, of songs for you to download at their site, and at epitonic as well, all absolutely free. Now if that doesn’t beat a complimentary scoop of baskin-robins ice cream to celebrate yahoo’s 10th birthday today, then I’m hard pressed to think of anything else that does.
So, if like me you are a fan of bands like 1 mile north, aarktica, godspeed you! black emperor, and mogwai then give tarentel a listen.
Ok I’m off to make a new playlist
